Connecting people with similar interest is a great idea, but other than the tags, it seems a lot like friendfeed rooms, but without the feeds which are usually the catalysts for conversations there. If every group on simler has a few people who are good at starting discussions, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be enjoyable and attract a nice userbase. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to try it right away because I don’t have the time right now. I’ll just have to rely on everyone’s feedback and if I hear good things, I’ll make the time to check it out.

I think my favorite thing about Simler (albeit I'm totally biased) is being able to have a conversation with someone who isn't "following" you. So, in theory, you could talk to Felicia Day about unicorns or whatever even though she may not be your "friend".

Nigel, I just sent you an invitation. As for finding new sites, the limit is up to you. There are hundreds of millions of people on the Web looking for social connections. Some are happy with what we have today. Others are looking for more. I am happy to find new communities that bring new ideas, and may never stop.

Interesting, but I just don't think there's anyone who can compete with Facebook right now. They can create this niche within the niche of social networking sites, but on Facebook for example, you can easily become a fan of a page of something or someone you're interested in, and then talk with others on the discussion forum. Interesting, but not something I think I'd use.
