Really thoughtful piece Micah and thank you for including Ignighter.

In this world of "hyper-transparency" it seems that the last remaining way to truly get to know somebody is to see them interacting with their friends. In fact, seeing the way somebody behaves with their friends can probably tell you a lot more about who that person really is than a Google/fb/flickr/twitter stalk session in my opinion.

The group atmosphere also leads to a healthier form of transparency. On a one-on-one date we might be able to craft a quasi-fictional persona that fits within the story created by our online identity. However our friends - at least mine - call us out on our bullshit and don't let us pretend to be someone or something that we're not. The group setting keeps us honest in a way that is more organic than Google.

Thanks for the shout out MIcah. I think the impact of social media on online dating will be an interesting story to follow.

Great article. Interesting facts, and good insight into where the online dating world is heading. Can't wait to see how the balance eventually settles between individual dating and group dating (I doubt either will ever win 100%).

That said, I never ONCE saw or even heard of this "Shots in the Dark" game you talk about. And I just graduated from college in 2008. Maybe I'm too old already, considering Facebook came out my freshman year of college...
