Agreed that limiting themselves to one platform is stupid. However, since that was their decision, I think Blackberry was a great choice. Despite the great success of the iPhone, keep in mind that there are millions of Blackberry's in service around the world. Also keep in mind that the typical Blackberry user is much more similar to the e-Trade demographic than the typical iPhone user. Finally, many Blackberry users feel left out in the cold with all this iPhone excitement. What a great way to tell your customers that you haven't forgotten about them than to build them a mobile app, bucking the hype of the iPhone.

the app store is over-hyped by the digerati; 99% of developers haven't made enough for time and materials so why bother; the real game looks like Ovi and frankly Android if they get 20x handsets

aard's news about a forthcoming iPhone app is good news. Businesses have to go where the customers are, and stock trading customers are on multiple platforms (yes, even Windows Mobile). The same rule applies when businesses want to establish a location on a social network - they won't succeed if they only go to Second Life, or only go to Facebook, or what have you.
