Thanks for profiling DandyID. I first stumbled across them last winter and created an account--shortly after their November 2008 feature in the Providence Mayor's newsletter, which I'd seen from a Google Alert. I was especially intrigued that the startup moved from Boulder, Colorado to Rhode Island.

@Ari - Boulder, CO and Providence, RI are both great places to base a web startup. Boulder has an amazing community of undeniably experienced tech entrepreneurs and investors; and of course TechStars, a mentor-driven seed stage investment-fund, which continues to attract new talent to the area every year. And although DandyID will always have great respect for its Boulder roots, we are very happy to be based out of Providence, Rhode Island. Providence is a beautiful costal city with a plethora of untapped resources for early stage tech companies. It is nicely positioned on I-95 between Boston (1 hr) and New York City (3.5 hrs), which makes it accessible to two of the East Coast's major tech communities; but, without the cost associated with operating a startup in either Boston or NYC. Truth be told, the cost of Living in Providence is VERY affordable, which really helps a startup stretch its dollars. In addition, Providence has an increasingly vibrate community of local entrepreneurs and investors. Open Coffees are held every other week, and once a month there is the Providence Geek Dinner, which is not unlike Boulder's New Tech Meetup. In addition, several local entrepreneurs just launched Betaspring, a mentorship-driven startup accelerator similar to TechStars. Also, the Mayor of Providence (@davidcicilline) seems to be very conscious of supporting and attracting tech focused companies to the area. In short, If you're a tech company looking for a place to call home, take a serious look at Providence, Rhode Island.
