Hutch Carpenter · 7 months agoSpot-on Louis. We in Silicon Valley underplay the luck aspect of what we do. It's easy to get dazzled by a company name on a resume. But there really is a confluence of timing and serendipity that drives the success of many workers. Were you at Jaiku or Twitter? Were you at Commerce One in 1999 or 2001? Not to say there isn't skill and great thinking in the success of these companies. But the pendulum swings too far toward crediting anyone ever associated with these companies with glory.
