Can you explain better? We are all for competition with our service, but better is totally inaccurate.

    We have the following advantages,

    * Customizable shortener service (rather than being fixed to bit.ly)
    * Custom @[whoever]
    * Logged in retweeting (you will find out why this is important tomorrow)
    * RSS / Email support - to embed the button

Lastly a known brand, people press our button because they know what it does.

Nick, I think your stuff is good. No question.

I have customized the @, as you mention. When running your button, I didn't have RSS/Email enabled, so that's a scratch. Bit.ly is safe (although I understand your point 100%).

Hosting the code is light, and not tied to any one service, yours or the competition, etc. And of course, I am keeping the TweetMeme button in the top right of my site, just like the FeedBurner count.

That said, this is your area of expertise, and I know you know your product very well.

But this new button is 'totally' tied to bit.ly - we support 12 shortener services, so you are not tied to anyone. I think @jeresig is awesome and a click count button is an interesting idea. I believe myself that 'clicks' is much less valuable as a click doesnt mean someone liked something whereas a retweet is someone specifcally saying they 'like' something.

Of course you are relying upon us a single point of failure - but we server 75 million buttons a day now, and still growing. We arnt going anywhere :)

Look out tomorrow for a massive reason why our button will suddenly bring you a whole new world of engagement.

It interests me that the insightful point you make about the inability to compete with those who have the re-tweet machine through the suggested user list is dismissed when lauding the tweetmeme button. The tweetmeme site simply re-echos that decision by defining quality on a basis of access to audience.

At root here is something that is very real. I watched what was a level playing ground within twitter get skewed horribly by the SUL back in March. What I like about the idea here is that those on the outside now need to find ways that celebrate the niche and not just pretend like the twitter ship hasn't pulled out of port without them.

Glad to see this new button going! Personally I've never used any retweets buttons but i'm going to give this a whirl. Haha liked how not all re-tweeting is created equal; ya know if i was on the suggested user list it would take away from all the fun of actually trying to build your army yourself..Personally I feel that experience and challenge is one worth going through...

    Cheers for the insight...

It looks like a good alternative for Tweetmeme and Retweet. Based on Josh Resig post, the differences is another key points. I will give it a try.

excellent - this sounds like a good solution. I wonder how long it will be before a wordpress plugin is created <grin>

Thanks for this tip, I will check it out and see if I can get the plug in for Blogspot platform. I noticed that you are running on Blogger, so that shouldn't be very hard for me to add on mine too :)
