Hi Jesse, thanks for covering Twitteronia!

OpenID is enabled on Twitteronia microblogs, but disabled for [creating] microblogs during the private beta.

There are two ways to remove dependence on Twitter for authentication, after the first Twitter OAuth dance: 1) use the "Password" profile app to set a password or 2) set your profile URL to your OpenID

Referring to microblogs as "twitters" is like you said, a temporary "code-name".

The application does support the WordPress theme format/api, but is not backed by WordPress itself.

    Thanks!

Notice I'm no longer listing my Twitter profile with my blog posts. :-)

Good on you Jesse... also, FYI: Leo Laporte (with an e at the end) you had a typo up top there :-)

Amani, you mean my Twitter profile? Because I'm posting almost everything from FriendFeed nowadays. This is the place to get in touch with me now. You can DM me here, as you can on Facebook. It's much better than Twitter and I want to show people that.

Very interesting... are any of these services doing some kind of peer to peer integration? I'm interested in self-hosted microblogging, but I want to be able to message users on their own self-hosted microblogs, as well as twitter and others. Is it possible?

    Rex,

The Laconica software is federated so that you can follow/reply across different instances. Peer to peer integration as you put it. As such any µblog hosted on status.net would have this intergration.

Since openmicroblogger.com and Twitteronia(I think) implement the OMB protocol they too will have this integration.

Awesome! I like this term "federated"

Very interesting post. This truly has a lot of potential. Especially if you're able to set up a good business model.

    Thanks for this post Jesse!

I have great faith in the future of OpenMicroBlogger and Twitteronia. Brian is doing a fantastic job opening up this platform for niche microblogs.

    Hello,
Today is another great website for microblogging hosting online.
    It is based on Wordpress.
