Louis (the robot) is first with this news. Woohoo

I wouldn't say I was first. The New York Times has an article, as does Ars Technica. Also, I trailed the official post. Now, if I broke this and Google didn't have their post up, that might be pretty cool.

Did you omit OS X for any specific reason Outsanity?

    Sounds like webOS

    Yo Google, bring it on!

Do you think this could blow Microsoft and even Ubuntu out of the OS waters?
  • Louis Gray · 5 months ago
I don't think it hits Microsoft much now. Their goal is netbooks at first. But I have learned to not underestimate Google. They can change the game, and they have incredible resources.

Microsoft owns the enterprise for the far forseeable future. This has no effect on their bottom line

It's really a breakthrough from Google this announcement. Google has the pockets and the talent to make something even greater than Ubuntu is (which Google confessed a time ago it used on it's computers).
We saw through Android a very nice interface, something better than Windows Mobile, but to some people worse than WebOS and iPhone OS. Still, everyone agrees on the great job done and the capability of the operating system.
I'm highly anxious for what the result will be.

The time for me to be an Apple fanboy and claim OS X superiority has come and gone. I too am eager to see what Google has up their sleeve, and what this will mean for mobile devices, netbooks and core operating systems. I think the iPhone trumps the Android platform, but I want to see this Chrome OS. Chrome is all I use when on Windows.

I am a dedicated Chrome user, and I think both Android and iPhone both have their own amount of suckage to pass around.

    This is serious, Ubuntu wha..?

I almost feel in a way bad that the Chrome OS is going to blow Ubuntu and other distros out of the water but at the same time... damn this is amazing.

Microsoft better be counting there days unless they do something quick, and I mean at the speed of light quick.

Not really. I figure Microsoft and Ubuntu would be the more candidates against "WinChrome OS Xbuntu"

We invite everybody to speculate on the outcome of the battle 'Google Chrome OS-Windows'. Is Google going to knock Microsoft down? Or Windows will never be defeated as the most popular OS? Tell us - http://www.votetheday.com/software/google-chrom...

My question is where does Chrome OS stop and Android begin? Will they be complimentary?

check out Microsoft's answer to Chrome OS: Microsoft Gazelle: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-10280270-56.html

Also - for Chrome OS to work Google are going to need to back it for a long time before it sees major traction. For it to even get that traction it is going to need mainstream adoption.. http://www.riazkanani.com/archive/2009/07/08/go...
