I agree that most people seriously underestimate the ongoing effort to grow your brand or influence, but it depends on what you're looking to accomplish. I wrote a post last month on this topic (and referenced one of your separating personal/work roles in it) http://nohype.tumblr.com/po...

Re: http://blog.louisgray.com/2009/04/once-you-start-you-can-never-stop.html

I totally disagree - I think that to try and fail is better than to never try at all. There is a famous poem that goes something like this:

"When I was daft as urchins are and full of fairy lore
I aimed an arrow at a star and hit a barn yard door
Well I have aimed at heaps of stars since then and always it's the same
The barn yard door has mocked me when Uranus was my aim
Well I'll shoot starward as of yore though wide my arrow fall
I would rather hit a barn yard door than never aim at all"

I believe starting something is a huge part of the challenge. Start and make a commitment and then just listen to Nike "Just do it"

Re: http://blog.louisgray.com/2009/04/once-you-start-you-can-never-stop.html

You make a Good point
It's about community
At the same time its competitive
How lucky for those who have both!

Re: http://blog.louisgray.com/2009/04/once-you-start-you-can-never-stop.html

Hmm, glad you're back at full steam

Re: http://blog.louisgray.com/2009/04/once-you-start-you-can-never-stop.html

Seriously...
