Have we colonized another planet, yet? This one's collective head is emptying at an alarming rate. I want off.

'Member that chat we had about number of followers representing some level of quality?

It's all so fascinating to watch the "race" on Twitter! If the President would just be able to tweet a bit more now, he might gain more followers. I guess first one to a million followers gets a prize? hehee. I'm for quality than quantity.

and for the record, nor do I. But surely, it's yet another sign of the End Times! :)

When you consider several hundred (or several thousand or ten thousand, etc) of those 620,000+ followers are either inactive or since-suspended, why obsess over numbers?

I fall into the camp that it just doesn't matter to me anymore. Ev and Biz are playing the wizard behind the curtain with all the celebrities. If we really put things into perspective without the new "very subjective" suggested users you'd still have people like Scoble in the top 50. All the celeb accounts are increasing by 6-8K because everyone new that signs up is automatically following half of them unless they opt-out.

I guess the strategy is good to get a wider audience onto Twitter, but I think it's alienating the people who worked hard to actually earn their social capital on the platform.

seems the twittersphere is running on empty of relevant stories to cover

@Allen, if it's bait, it's not good bait. The story is relevant, factual and timely. And @BCK, if there's a measurement out there to rank folks, people tend to note who's on top. Last night, who is on top changed. My guess is that other blogs, had they written it, would have been more widely distributed.
