louisgray.com: louisgray.com: What I Believe: My 10 Web and Blogging Expectations

You either had that in the can already, or becoming a father made you better. It's a great post. largely due to some of your previous efforts I am trying to be much more conscious about #2 & #3. It's easy to prognosticate that say what Keith Teare is doing with his web scraping will not work. And in that case, I don't have any qualms about being a little malevolent about the prognostication. But that is definitely the exception case, and not the rule.

There is a natural tendency, especially among a very self-expressive group, to want to prognosticate and nothing probably will ever change that! But such prognostications can be couched in reasonable ways that don't impugn the developers or their intentions.

Robert, thanks for the note. I actually wrote the entire post "post-babies". I was mulling it over in my head the last few days, and it does draw from some previous posts I've done, including those around internal linking, around comment portability, etc. I know I won't always get every single one of these right, and I know I could probably do this post again in a week and have some changes, but I thought it was worth putting out there.

When people ask why I blog it is about helping push for change. I love announcing news, but I also like doing things right and hoping others can help do the same. Thanks for your comments.

Excellent rules for anyone. This is why I keep reading your content, and hopefully some people can learn from this.

I Believe In The Ability to Disagree Without Ill Will

This has always been one I want to get really good at. I definitely don't have a problem having a discussion, but when the discussion becomes a debate.. that's a different story. Currently, I avoid that sort of situation. But I want to get to the point where I can stand on my platform and stand my ground, without getting too hot or capitulating.

Great post. Thanks and congrats on the family. These are the kind of veteran blogger insights that I am looking for in my non-traditional foray into learning blogging.

Great post Louis and with lots of food for thought for those of us just starting out in the new blogosphere (if not the web itself, in my case).
It is very helpful to receive some guidance, as the likelihood of some of us offending or putting our metaphorical foot in it, is quite high in the beginning!! It can be a bit chastening or upsetting to be pulled up for these things, so it is better to know and understand the 'netiquette' as soon as possible.

I gather you have just become a father, so many congratulations to you.
