    I completely agree with your thoughts in this post. If twitter can help the users in the explanation between users and non-users... the way will be easier.
    It is completely possible for Twitter to go mainstream... whether we like it or not.

    Hmm, what about keeping the advanced functionality, but disabling it by default? (Ideally, you'd make it simple for folks to figure out how to enable it if they really wanted it.

    Yes KISS! You are so right FF is easy for someone who is an internet junkie like us, but you throw a newbie into FF or something similar & they will be so lost and turned off. Yet if you took that same newbie they most likely could catch on quickly to twitter. However, I have also sent a few newbies to twitter and they don't get it.... yet! They will as I watch so many other platforms like facebook copy twitters approach to micro blogging.
