I wonder if this could be a possible path for Twitter to get some revenue. GNIP has a freemium model where the service is free, but if your volume exceeds a certain level you start to pay for the service

sbtodd, I agree - they have so many options, yet they aren't embracing any of them. I wonder what their investors are saying right now. I certainly wouldn't want to invest in a company with that type of attitude. API is an excellent way to monetize.

You do have to give Twitter credit for building a super easy to use service that has attracted a large and growing user base. Gutsy investors must feel that there will be a way to make money at some point I guess.
