louisgray.com: louisgray.com: Twitter Implements Threaded Comments, Sort Of

  • robdiana · 1 year ago
Louis, the API feature is definitely new, but "threaded" replies is technically in their database somewhere. On a get request, you can see that a given tweet was a response to another tweet in the API results. Enabling through the API is a really good addition though. I am speculating here, but eliminating the need to use "@" could mean that they are looking into federated/distributed updates similar to an email address. That would be huge.

Yeah Rob - that would possibly be the "significant" thing I was talking about that would convince me back to Twitter. It will be interesting to watch.

About time! Though I guess we have to wait to see if they actually do threads ...

It works on identi.ca, now, too.

Sweet Evan! Thanks for implementing that - one more reason I love Identi.ca. :-)

It's a very good news. The feature has been pending for a long time as it was already present in the API but not working.

    YooPlace also has added "in_reply_to_status_id" ... http://yooplace.com/17lv

Since they're now opening the gate of the threated conversation, they're addressing a strong message to media agencies telling them "we'd be soon ready to insert ads in conversation". But would they be able to create the Google adsense for the conversation. For sure the next challenge of the web for marketers, and a huge business field.

Seems like a useful feature (understatemently).

Excellent. Waiting to see which client will leverage this first...

if, in the future, you drop the "@" in replies, how can you post replies via IM?
