louisgray.com: louisgray.com: TwitOrFit Says All You Blokes Are Ugly Twits, Worse than Dogs

Don't worry, Louis, yours is far from the worst profile pic seen on Twitter. Although, having a smile or other friendly expression would certainly improve yours. Would at least pull you into the 3.5+ zone.

Chris, I have never intended my profile pic to be that alluring. First
of all, you can only work with what's been dealt... but one thing I
stepped away from was using my standard LG louisgray.com brand on
Twitter. I wanted to show a "serious pic" so I took one at the office.
Maybe I should get dolled up and repost it to TwitOrFit to break the
    elusive 3 barrier. :-)

I think it just means that average twitorfit user is a harsh critic. ;)

(If no one is scoring on the high end of the scale then there is something wrong with the scoring or something wrong with the scale.)

You're probably right, but I think a good part of it is that a lot of people aren't actually choosing the best profile pics for themselves.
  • Erin McMahon · 11 months ago
That's true. I know I didn't have a rating scale in mind when I chose my pic. There are certainly things you can do to encourage a better score if you are aiming for that.

    Hi Louis,

We will in the new year reveal some of the voting trends - but given that the ratio of men to women is very high - you can pretty much bet men were voting on other men.

Main lesson we learnt from this is that until we get OAuth (come on twitter!) - we need a way to securely sign people up without taking twitter user/pass.

Have a great christmas + new year,

    Nick

Nick, although I clearly found the results amusing, I guessed the
gender bias in TwitOrFit heavily leaned male. Even if you did get
OAuth support enabled, why do you think that would change the gender
    inequality?

I only have anecdotal evidence - but from what I hear a lot more women were concerned about security, but it is more likely that security is really about not wanting to attract more stalkers (twitter has enough).

My real thought when it comes to OAuth - is all about implementation - is it going to be a friendly experience - what we really need is the equivilient of 'facebook connect' for twitter - although from a technical standpoint I hate these 'surface identification models' - from the user point of view facebook connect really does feel really easy + secure to use.
