Honestly, I believe the advertising bubble existed before the web, and that our economy has forever overvalued ads (especially ones not touting one substitute good over another).

However, the internet is amazing thing. I could make a name for myself by blogging about this very thing (or writing a book, etc). However, I like the internet as much as the next guy, and I'm willing to let the monkeys keep overspending. We need to invest in these techs more... so better Coca-Cola does it than my subscription fees.

Anyway... you say you're willing to pay for internet content... ok, looking at ads is paying for internet content. What if, instead of receiving ads, you could opt out of ads for the average support from ad revenue?

Re: louisgray.com: The Web Advertising Bubble Has Got to Pop

I believe your article has some merit. Unsolicited advertisements will be essentially ignored and that is where online directory advertising will come in. Companies such as yellowpages.com, yahoolocal and any other online directory company will start to realize how valuable it is to have a target audience that comes to to advertiser and not the other way around. When you need something, where do you go and what do you want to find. You want relevant and local companies that sell those products and services.
