When I started school we were given spills (pieces of stick) to count with. We went home through the cornfields eating masses of wild blackberries while an abundance of insects swarmed and numerous varieties of birds sang. Now 65 years later quad core processors aren't fast enough to do what I want. The insects and birds have gone (except for those damn pigeons) and the corn is rationed. No wonder I am resigned to a virtual world of slowmo!

Re: louisgray.com: The Tech Adopter's Lament

Get a PC :P

Re: louisgray.com: The Tech Adopter's Lament

Now imagine all that with 56k

Re: louisgray.com: The Tech Adopter's Lament

Instant would be nice... :(

Re: louisgray.com: The Tech Adopter's Lament

We always want upgrades and for stuff to be faster. Not because it wasn't interesting, nor because it was poorly written, nor because it was too long. So why were my eyes skimming ahead in an interesting, well-written, and arguably witty entry of the ideal length? Because we (or at least I) want the bottom line -- and I want it now. :-)

I swear I didn't used to be that way. I used to savor writing....

The logical thing for me to do now is to look for something to blame: Too much work, too many sources of new information, communication moving to bite-sized chunks (i.e. microblogging and comments on social networking sites), etc. But that would take time, so I won't. ;-)

Re: louisgray.com: The Tech Adopter's Lament

bravo mr. gray, bravo.
