louisgray.com: louisgray.com: Take FriendFeed Mobile With FF To Go

  • Gadiel Rivera · 1 year ago
Great find Louis. I really think this should have been implemented by FF itself from the start, with all this other sites offering essential features FF already should have their traffic is gonna be affected in some way.

Not only that but for the casual users that don't know of any of this sites the experience is not going to be has smooth, I only hope FF is taking note on all this features.

Very, very, very cool. Gobsmacked, in fact. My thanks to Benjamin (and you Louis for reporting it!)
  • Benjamin Golub · 1 year ago
"Gobsmacked" <-- I like it. Thanks everyone!
  • Sally Church · 1 year ago
It works on my Blackberry! Oh my! Thank you Benjamin :)
  • Techspeaks · 1 year ago
Great find! thanks I was just thinking about this last night
  • fineartdavid · 1 year ago
Looking forward to giving this a go on the bus home. I'd been reading posts using Opera mini, but haven't been able to use the like or comment buttons.
  • Matt Shaulis · 1 year ago
Benjamin strikes again!! Seriously, the guy is wildfire... *bows*

Very nice job Benjamin, way to heed the call.

Nice scoop Louis. (*off-topic*: i especially like the twit-out comment in the screen-shot... I couldn't agree more... I thought the same thing without the ability to put in to such well spoken-ness.) ;)

Nice find, Louis. Thanks for sharing.
  • Bwana · 1 year ago
Welp. There goes my productivity. Excuse me, I'm going to bury my iPhone under 3 feet of concrete.
  • Carsten Pötter · 1 year ago
Looks good. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work on my N82. I just can't log in. :|
  • Benjamin Golub · 1 year ago
    Should be working now.
  • Carsten Pötter · 1 year ago
    Thanks! It's working now :)
  • ontarioemperor · 1 year ago
I will definitely try this on my first generation Motorola Q with Windows Mobile 5 and IE 4. We'll see what happens.
  • tad · 1 year ago
I am unable to log in on my iPod touch. I enter my login and remote key and it just goes back to the login screen. :(
  • tad · 1 year ago
Well, now I can log in, but the text is so freaking tiny - not like the screenshot above at all. I can make the text larger, but then i have to scroll around. Since I'm on an iPod Touch I should see the same as the screenshot above, right?
  • zachflauaus · 1 year ago
It's not working on my BlackBerry 8130. It looks very promising though.
  • Chris Anthony · 1 year ago
Nor on my Blackberry 8830 World - or, honestly, in Firefox 2 on OS X. Like tad above, I keep cycling back to the login screen in both browsers; I've reset my remote key several times to no avail.

Benjamin, some more information when a login fails would be nice - without that reporting, I can't tell what I'm doing wrong, and without that I can't fix the problem.
  • Benjamin Golub · 1 year ago
App Engine is kind of fragile at the moment....I don't want to do any updates to the code because it seems to be running fine now. But you are totally right, I should tell the user something.

Can you try to login now?
  • Chris Anthony · 1 year ago
Looks fine now, Benjamin. Thank you!
  • jeffisageek · 1 year ago
great story thanks for putting it out there...the minute i saw it I was like ohhh i gotta go check it out!
  • Jason Niel · 1 year ago
OK, call me stupid but... what is the remote key and where do I find it? Clicking that link doesn't work on my Blackberry.
  • Jason Niel · 1 year ago
OK, never mind. I figured it out... what a PITA that remote key thing is. I'd prefer just to use my password....

Does FF to Go allow you to search FF?
  • Benjamin Golub · 1 year ago
  • James · 1 year ago
One major flaw with this app is the inability to search. I frequently find myself doing
global searches on FF for topics that I follow closely such as the iPhone and Facebook.
Thanks for all of the hard work Benjamin. Hopefully, search will be added soon.
  • Matt Shaulis · 1 year ago
Why not nab a Feed of those FriendFeed searches:

    "iphone": http://friendfeed.com/search?q=iphone&format=atom

    "facebook": http://friendfeed.com/search?q=facebook&format=...

and look at those on your mobile... just a thought, especially if these are searches you perform regularly. :)
  • Benjamin Golub · 1 year ago
    You can search now: http://www.fftogo.com/search/
  • Ben Borges · 1 year ago
This is the best news ever ! i was waiting for this one Geez !!!
now i know i will totally suck at not using it at my workplace, hehe
it work great with latest opera mini on my W610i

Are you already counting "Rooms" out? It hasn't even been 24 hours. lol

    Looks nice on my iPhone.
  • Louis Gray · 1 year ago
FF To Go debuted before Rooms were introduced, so Benjamin's features show only that which was available at the time.
  • shaun76 · 1 year ago
I know, it was more a jab at FF Rooms and how people were already turning on them by the end of the day yesterday.
  • ontarioemperor · 1 year ago
But the problem is that many providers have spoiled us by providing near-instantaneous (or seemingly instantaneous) upgrades. Which leads us to the train of thought, "Hey, it's already been several hours! Why aren't rooms incorporated into fftogo yet?" And yes, Benjamin, I'm kidding...
  • Benjamin Golub · 1 year ago
I'm not sure if I'm going to add rooms into fftogo just yet. At the moment they aren't getting a lot of use and I'm afraid it would really clutter up the UI on a small screen.
  • kenlefeb · 1 year ago
I wouldn't bother with rooms... if I care about a room when I'm in fftogo, I'll send its output to the main feed and will see it there, right?

I have noticed, though, that fftogo assumes that all updates from Flickr are "Posted" photos. It says that I "posted" a picture when really I "faved" it. :)
  • Benjamin Golub · 1 year ago
Unfortunatly the API doesn't say if you posted or favorited a Youtube video
or a Flickr photo. Likewise you can't see if you liked or commented on a
    Reddit story.
  • kenlefeb · 1 year ago
Ah... so they're not using their own API...
  • ojhaslam · 1 year ago
This mobile interface is avtually easier to use than the real thing ! I might start using FriendFeed now, before it was just too cluttered and messy.
  • Aaron · 11 months ago
Awesome! I was just looking for an app for my Centro, but this is every bit as good.
