    Interesting. Did you see the study that Mint.com did with their re-design? They've increased their capture (conversion) rates by a lot with their home page redesign too.

    I've noticed that often referral traffic has a high bounce rate, but often have users who look quickly, bookmark it and return (directly) later....

    I didn't see the Mint.com study, but I'll check it out. I agree with you that all bounces aren't bad and sometimes indicate something good. People coming to the site to find out, for example, what the ratings for Law & Order were the night before, get the information quickly and are satisfied. We'd of course like it if they stuck around and checked out more stuff, but to the degree that we provided them the info they wanted, we're happy -- even if they only stuck around few seconds.
