I don't mind sorting through the noise right now, so my Twitter list is somewhat broad. After using friendorfollow.com I saw a few Twitter friends I could probably drop, as they rarely tweet or I get their information from other sources.

Problem is, there's a split in the Twittersphere; some take a dim view of the picking and the choosing you and I partake in.

I also have a set of rules, which I've written up in an article entitled: "So yo found me on Twitter, right?" There I lay down a few general rules.

I've added this link to my Twitter profile (URL attached), so it's the first thing people see when they visit my blog.

Personally, I with you all the way on this, Louis. But some simply don't agree...

Interesting post...I was stumbled it by a friend and am glad I did...

I love using Twitter, but was unaware as to how to update my "theme", so to speak...

I have been a little less active as of late, as we're back and forth moving from Niagara to Dallas and back and forth...LOL...

Thanks for some more information on Twitter...many of the friends I have on there are all personal acquaintances too!

I too follow the same criteria for clearing my following list and tend to stay away from people who hardly interact with their followers

Nice post! I have been trying to figure out how to manage my growing list as well.

As a programmer, I find that there are certain times of the day that I can't be interrupted with any incoming data, and other times where I am very much a multitasker, checking into my stream every few minutes.

One trick I've used to manage the volume is to send my BFFs to SMS. I also add a few "guests" to this list. I follow a stranger or "guest" for a period of time in order to "get to know them" and their patterns, which is where the personality starts to shine through. This way, I can see the filtered list on my iPhone when I have a break in the day.

Hmm, that filtering ability sounds like it could be a really cool mashup, come to think of it...wonder if any exist...

I'm another breed entirely. I started a new acct to use as a newsfeed and accidentally had added an old twitter friend. I dm'd her to let her know why I switched, but other than that I keep a very trim list so it's more of a google reader lite than a regular twitter feed. I'm sure that makes no sense! ;-)

I hope for reciprocal follows in case I want to DM on something, but other than that I'm with you on the trimming down to suit your own personal interests/needs.
