I like the baby pictures. Exploit them some more , please. With the new search features, I was able to find one of Robert's posts which I couldn't find a few days ago. The info you pulled up is really interesting and entertaining. I'm eagerly awaiting search on one other site which I use regularly (Give you one guess) . I can't wait to see what they come up with!

so folks on ff would rather talk about bacon instead of sex? geeks. :-)
  • (jeff)isageek · 10 months ago
    mmm bacon

Just for the record, the italian-language FF thread with 150 or more comments is not about a cat: it's about an accident in customer relationship management (in the real world, not online…) that become a brand nightmare for Carrefour (Carrefour is the largest hypermarket chain in the world in terms of size, and the second largest retail group in the world in terms of revenue after Wal-Mart).

    it's bacooooonn!
  • Paul Buchheit · 10 months ago
    Great examples!
  • Jeroen de Miranda · 10 months ago
I like the examples a lot; it gives you more idea of the great potential of FriendFeed! A minor but useful improvement is the fact that when you press on 'search', you now enter in the advanced search mask right away.

    >Aside from the previously mentioned Scoble monetization post, only one post I have ever made has >hit 60 or more comments

I don't think you're getting complete responses to your searches, Louis. The post you made on Saturday about my blog article had well over 60 comments. Thanks again for that, btw.
  • Louis Gray · 10 months ago
Dawn, you're right, the entry with your detail had many comments. But
that was a "FriendFeed Internal" item, not necessarily a blog post
from here that made its way to the service. So the comment about posts
from louisgray.com making their way to FF and not getting a lot of
comments is still true. And you're welcome.

I agree with Paul very interesting snapshot of the FF community while showcasing the power of the new search app.
  • mcwflint · 10 months ago
I especially liked that you did links to originals. Makes it easy to share as explained
  • Louis Gray · 10 months ago
Thanks mcw, tsudohnimh and Paul. I didn't pretty up the post with screen captures. I felt the original links themselves could tell the story.

'So yes, FriendFeed loves Scoble, tolerates me, and loves babies' - Classic :)
  • Mona N. · 10 months ago
This is so funny - the very time I ever commented on an LG item was on July 9th, 2008!
  • April Russo · 10 months ago
Just so you know, that conversation in Italian was NOT about a cat. It was a mother's story about the abusive treatment her 4 yr old autistic child received from a professional photographer.

With respect to Paul and you, Louis, I'm not sure the examples are that great, or do a great service to FriendFeed. Yes, likes and comments tend to skew towards power users... so to show the true power of FF data mining, maybe searches that reveal potentially vital data would have been better fodder for this post.

If we drop the numbers fascination and look around for topical events, I think there's a lot of significant and interesting stuff happening on the site (cats, dogs, and cute babies aside :)

    Examples:

Some of the hottest conversations happening around Obama: http://friendfeed.com/search?q=comments%3A50+in...

    Potentially inspirational: http://friendfeed.com/search?q=&intitle=inspira...

People feeling depressed, maybe in need of a kind word: http://friendfeed.com/search?q=&intitle=depress...

Friendfeed-related posts that Bret or Paul have chimed in on: http://friendfeed.com/search?q=comment%3Apaul%2...

I just don't want people setting aside FriendFeed because they feel it's inane or frivolous, or because they're turned off by the major personalities there. Because it really is all about what's happening live, and what's so easily within reach now...

Liked for multiple mentions of Akiva's baby. :P
