It's gotten me thinking about how I try to explain the social media toys I play w/ to my non-geeks and I'm realizing I'm pretty awful about it. I liked this idea though, because I'm always big on sending links to friends and I hadn't thought of it as a way to evangelize social media before.

Re: louisgray.com: I'm Evangelizing RSS With Google Reader's E-mail Function

Kathleen, the topic of mainSTREAM is very much on my mind these days.
It was fun to see Drew the other week, and give an attempt to describe
Twitter in a short, succinct way. It's got me thinking I should be
mainSTREAMing a lot more apps, and devising ways to get it done.

Re: louisgray.com: I'm Evangelizing RSS With Google Reader's E-mail Function

Very mainSTREAM of you :) it's something you ought to share with the Strands community as it's totally in line with the mainSTREAM initiative (but you already knew that, didn't you?)

Re: louisgray.com: I'm Evangelizing RSS With Google Reader's E-mail Function

Nice e-mail graphic Louis .... and I way sitting here wondering what was goin' on. This is exactly how I live. having tried everything, I subscribe to a zillion different feeds thru Google Reader, including a Yahoo Pipe I set up for my own name and business name, and I begin every day reading and sharing through RSS (thank you Dave) and sharing. This is the way I reach people who are not early adopters, but want to see some of the things I see.

Re: louisgray.com: I'm Evangelizing RSS With Google Reader's E-mail Function

I have been doing this for almost a year. I am the only person I know of (with the exception of my equally geeky husband) who uses a reader. I email industry related blogs to the management team and co-workers and for my family and friends mostly inspirational or political items.

I get frustrated that I don't know many people who use technology the same way I do, however, so far, it has created a bit of job security :)

Re: louisgray.com: I'm Evangelizing RSS With Google Reader's E-mail Function

Social news aggregation sites like FriendFeed and Social Median are building their own tools to slurp up your Google Reader stories. For each of them you just add your Google Reader shared news URL (mine is http://www.google.com/reade... and the site takes care of the rest.

I don't know if there's pure RSS for generic solutions but people are already working it out.

Daniel J. I work for a team that manages a corporate web site and it's been difficult to convince my colleagues that we need to know how to use RSS and other web technologies. I can't MAKE them adopt RSS, but I can send RSS feed items to them by email in order to not only pass along relevant information but also subtly provide a hint regarding Google Reader & RSS.

I have created keyword searches in Twitter Search and subscribed to them in Google Reader to monitor what is being said about our brand. When I get one that I know will be particularly interesting to a person or group within the company, I use Google Reader to email it to them. That has helped create awareness that: (1) people *are* talking about us online, (2) people talk about us on Twitter, and (3) you can use Google Reader to consume RSS (including automated Twitter searches).

Re: louisgray.com: I'm Evangelizing RSS With Google Reader's E-mail Function

Hé Louis,
I use the reader as my starting point for the 'net's news as well, and this article really got me enthousiastic about sharing what i like. But how do you exactly "quickly add items to a link blog" in Google reader? I searched around for a bit, but didn't find the way to do this. The Share option is not (yet) an RSS feed and i don't see any plugins for reader and Del.ico.us or similar programs.

Re: louisgray.com: I'm Evangelizing RSS With Google Reader's E-mail Function

Great Post....But Google Should not have the only reader with cred, especially since it is not open source...
I m also a feed junky, and because I wanted to have some features not available in most feed readers; I have designed a feed reader that matches and best Google reader in many areas. To make sure that the adelph.us feed reader can continue to evolve with the best features in the near future we will be releasing it with an Open Source license.
