I really think Synergy will be very important for Palm to capitalize on

Re: louisgray.com: How Palm Pre Could Change the Game

Kontra, it would be stating the obvious to say your article is fantastic. I won't even go in to how in-depth, thoughful, and well-written it is. So, before my ego deflates too much, I will say that my article achieved one of the goals I intended when writing it: I get to be exposed to great discussion and thoughts.

Great post. Thank you.

Re: louisgray.com: How Palm Pre Could Change the Game

"Pre's introduction, website, technology packaging, industrial design, UI, product naming and positioning...down to the flow of its CES presentation were pointedly, but perhaps not surprisingly, Apple-like. Of all the current iPhone competitors, Pre clearly captures the 'soul' of the iPhone as much as any product not-from-Cupertino can. Whatever Pre 'borrows' from the iPhone, it does so not with the brazen indifference of recent iPhone-killers, but with care and purpose."

However:

"Palm is clearly late to iPhone's party. By the time the first Pre is sold, the iPhone will likely have 30 million users in 70+ countries, 15,000 apps, a huge developer and peripherals ecosystem, perhaps a third of the market share and 40% of smartphone revenues. And that's before the next generation iPhone device and OS are introduced."

I explored Pre's chances in:

"Strategic shortcomings of Pre in the post-iPhone era"
http://counternotions.com/2...

Re: louisgray.com: How Palm Pre Could Change the Game

Me too. I doubt I will get one because I got the iPhone 3G and now am contract-locked, but I will definitely seek one out to play with it on release day!

Oh, and thanks!

Re: louisgray.com: How Palm Pre Could Change the Game

Phil, wonderful write up! I am anxious to see how this plays once it hits Verizon's network. The other carriers just aren't as strong in this area (yet).

Re: louisgray.com: How Palm Pre Could Change the Game

Thanks, but you were right the first time actually! I wrote the article but my title was a bit.. optimistic? Louis gave it just the right touch of grounding that it needed.

Re: louisgray.com: How Palm Pre Could Change the Game

i am all for improvement that is useful

Re: louisgray.com: How Palm Pre Could Change the Game

I think it is important to remember that most of niggling foibles of the iPhone (e.g., copy/paste) were NOT discussed prior to getting into hands of real world users. While the pre appears to be an improvement in some areas (most notably multi-tasking and Online App integration) we should perhaps take a breath and reserve some judgment for the device/software until it is in 30 or 40 thousand hands.
Louis - I think you nailed the title... it COULD. Of course if the phone starts splitting in two when the keyboard is opened, or the OS crashes every 15 minutes... maybe not so much.
I'm taking a deep breath and waiting for launch... when you've use one for 2 weeks or so I'll be dying for your review.

Re: louisgray.com: How Palm Pre Could Change the Game

OOOOOOPS...
