Update via email?? Is there not a browser based method of updating?

Blogger offers a few choices:

1) Use their "blogspot.com" hosted service.
2) Use a FTP publishing service to a externally hosted site (like I do)
3) Use a custom domain pointing to their hosted service.

When FTP goes bust, e-mailing a post in should be the work-around, but that didn't exactly work this morning either.

When posting via FTP, it is done via the browser. But during the outage, FTP was SOL.

Definitely upgrade to WP - you may be much happier with what you can do.
