Pretty cool overview. I received an invitation so I'm more intrigued after reading your article.
    Thanks

No, not mybloglog killer but a good competition to them. I see the many good technical aspects too. I just hope it is easy and user friendly to navigate too.

If people have choices of similar services it will help them find one suited to their needs. That will increase interest in the field and lead to more potential users for all the competitors.

Great post Mike. Cut through the marketing talk and explains how to actually use the darn thing.

Good stuff, Mike. Bwana's site is a good, practical example of how to implement Friend Connect. Thanks for this clear explanation. I'm looking for a more detailed explanation of - "Tell us about your site" - I think I'm missing something there.

Great post, Mike! I like how you covered pretty much everything -- I didn't even know about the stats stuff! Thanks!

Phil, thank you. I tried to make it as beginner friendly as possible. Looking back, I see I could of added a few more things. One is never completely happy with their finished product. This one is close enough :)

I wrote a completely different kind of beginner article to GFC over on Google Tutor. It should be up on Monday.. check it out then and let me know what you think!

Great explanation and I am intrigued, but will it work on a Wordpress site?
  • mfruchter · 1 year ago
    Lorraine,

It should work on any WP theme/site that supports widgets.
  • Mike Chelen · 1 year ago
It also must be self hosted WP not Wordpress.com

Is this kind of similar to Followers, on Blogger? I'm guessing this has more scope to expand though...

Friend Connect is a bit rough around the edges, but Google is definitely on to something big here.
  • David Cheong · 12 months ago
True on the rough part on having user to join in on my site, but Friend Connect, as far as I can see, it really do great on the traffic part to my website.

Great article Mike and thanks for linking me. It's going to be interesting to see what kind of gadgets people develop and how the competition with Facebook Connect will affect things.

From start to finish, great post. Good job Mike.

It sounds really iteresting. I would like to see it developing some better widgets for a broader userbase. Now it seems more targeted toward bloggers, but I would like to see them harness better the power of social media and information exchange

My site has multiple sub domains. So do I need to register the site for every sub domain ? Or there is some other way to do that...
