There are already numerous protocols for industrial and residential control systems - all have SDKs for multiple platforms, and so, such a systems that you speak of would not have to be made of whole cloth. The key-less entry systems used for luxury cars uses a system made by - oh brain lock - I remmeber and post it later. Point is that its not the hardware, but the solution domain is well mature. Oh, It's Maxim semiconductor.

I've always wondered why my house doesn't have power locks. I've *never* had to put the key in my car door to unlock it, that's since driving it off the lot 4 years ago.

I'd use for a variety of things, but it would be the coolest if my iPhone could lock/unlock all 3 of my cars and my garage without having to manage multiple fobs.
