louisgray.com: louisgray.com: Broadband Put to Test With 410 MB of Apple Software Updates

It really is quite amazing how far we have come. Storage capacity is far outpacing Moore's Law - the only real shame is that the speed of the network isn't keeping up at all.

That said, I still fondly remember my first 300 baud modem hooked up to my C64... it was one of those early acoustically couple ones where you put the handset in a cradle with a microphone and speaker...

I never had a Commodore 64, but we did suffer through the 2400 baud modem era. Upgraded to 14.4, 19.2, 28.8, 33.6 and 56k... the whole race that our kids will never know.

What's also interesting is how many download updates that Apple has issued since the release of Leopard. All that time and effort creating it, and it still needs tweaking. I realize this is the nature of software development but it's still interesting when it comes from Apple.

Man, Louis, it must have been a while since you've updated! Some of those go back quite a few months, if I'm remembering correctly... do you not have it set up to auto-check?

I know I used to. My guess is that this is the result of when I took the laptop in for Apple to fix (thanks to my crushing its screen), as they wiped the hard drive. I thought I had done all the necessary updates after that, but it's possible I didn't, or I just haven't been checking, and these piled up. Time to tweak my settings.

Wow! If Microsoft tried to push out a 50 MB Security Update people would go bananas!!!
