Interesting. I'm taking a look at commenting rates over the same period right now. There seems to be a dip in terms of comments/post, but not as pronounced.

Here in Japan, there are quite a few bloggers (English and Japanese) that have taken it easy this week. Perhaps the start of December has more people Christmas shopping than blogging?

Serious bloggers might want to be sure to publish during sluggish times in hopes of attracting more readers. They wouldn't have to neglect their other doings; they could pre-write and auto-publish over that time period.
