louisgray.com: louisgray.com: 15 Tools for Your Twitter Toolbox

  • drewolanoff · 1 year ago
dang. spending all this time on twitter tools, how do you make time to tweet?
  • Louis Gray · 1 year ago
How much time do you think you spend Tweeting, Drew? If you installed Wakoopa, and used the Twitter Web interface, it'd actually tell you. Mine shows Twitter as my 5th most popular app, behind only Safari, Mail, FriendFeed and Google Reader. http://wakoopa.com/louisgray/usage

    Louis,

Always great descriptions of tools! There are several here I was unfamiliar with. Thanks.

Bill, Mike Fruchter did a great job with this post, as he has done with each of his here so far. I have to give him full credit. All I did was pass him the keys. But I'm going back and re-reading to see what tools I've missed myself.

Awesome stuff. Thank you very much.

I've tried Twhirl but use Tweetdeck. I think it is the best way to keep your Tweets organized.

Craig, I'm a big fan of TweetDeck myself, and was among the very first to talk about it back on July 4th.

Yet as it doesn't allow for support of Identica, I actually do my posting using Posty, or interface using FriendFeed.

Hadn't heard of twistory - vry cool, thanks for the tips

    Mike,

    Thanks for the list.

I'd like to invite you to try BigTweet at http://bigtweet.com/

It's a bookmarklet that lets you post to Twitter from any Web page, shorten URLs with Bit.ly and include special Unicode symbols. You can use it in 140 char mode, or enable a special 280 char mode for when you have a little more to say :)

    I welcome any feedback.

Scott, thanks for the note. I'll check out www.bigtweet.com for sure.
  • scott_carter · 1 year ago
    Thanks Louis!

It's the initial version of BigTweet, so any suggestions are appreciated. It's intended mostly for web surfing, so I will be streamlining some functionality in upcoming releases (URL shortening for example takes too many clicks, and perhaps should be automatic). The intention is not to replace fine clients such as TweetDeck which do a great job of monitoring and providing realtime interaction with tweets. I view BigTweet as filling a different need - tweets during web exploration.

To see all the top tweeted URLs, along with the actual tweets for context, try: http://twitturly.com

Additionally, we keep track of each twitter users linking history too, try http://twitturly.com/user/your_twitter_username

Is itweet your preffered twitter web service? I bet it doesn't work on Windows does it?
  • redhat · 1 year ago
I liked this, Twistory and Tweetake most. I actually wrote/modified a too post them directly into my google calendar. This is slightly easier and requires no maintenance from me. Which make me quite happy.

What I also find interesting is that I could make a view in which I could analyse the various Geek Bloggers and see who is actually riding the wave and who is doing the work. I know I do a lot of riding, then again I don't get the big bucks. ;)

    Hi Louis, Mike,

Nice list, but you can do even more with your tweets when they are placed in context. Have you played with Storytlr ? (http://storytlr.com) to mashup your tweets, flickr, qik, etc.. into stories (just check this one: http://eschnou.storytlr.com/story/1-night_hike....). Would be great to have your feedback on this !

Great list. I use twhirl fanatically and Digsby for my ping.fm tool. I have messed with tweetdeck before. I guess I'll need to give it another shoot. I wounder if Tweedeck works with FriendFeed.

Also check out feedalizr, http://www.feedalizr.com, offers full twitter client support and aggregates other social networking sites like flickr, friendfeed, facebook and jaiku.

Dont forget http://easytweets.com . It lets you "space out" tweets over time. It also has a widget that shortens the current page and lets you add text. And rss feeds too

I Tweet! is a much better app for Android than Twidroid. Otherwise, this list is stellar.

There's also a paleolithic twitter client now called http://www.twitterstone.biz which only really works when you're asleep.
