Thanks for clearing that up. I thought there was a difference between jailbreaking and unlocking the iPhone?

There is a big difference. Unlocking frees you from having to use one carrier or the other. Most phone models are available already unlocked which lets you use different carriers in different countries a lot cheaper than paying the roaming costs from your home carrier.

Jailbreaking basically gives you access to your hard drive on your phone and lets you partition it so that you can run third party software that greatly increase the functionality of the iPhone which Apple has intentionally kept limited to their developers.

My phone is jailbroken and always will be. As far as jailbreaking voiding your warranty: all you have to do is update your phone to Apple's original software via iTunes and then you can take it to the Apple store or send it in for servicing. Afterwards you can always run the jailbreaking software again once you have the phone back. Just remember though that if you update to Apple's 2.2 software using iTunes then the yellowsn0w tweak will not work. There are other programs out there that you use to update with without upgrading your baseband. It is a win/win situation.

Wait, so you CAN use the iphone 3GS on T-Mobile USA? You just won't have access to the 3G data network? That's good to know
